    Hodinkee 10th Anniversary LE Speedmaster

    https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/om...imited-edition

Hodinkee just released a 500 piece limited edition Speedmaster in honor of their 10th anniversary. It's styled after the MK40, but with an 1861 movement and the newer 39.7mm straight lug case.

I'm sure yet another limited edition, Hodinkee association, and rehashing of a classic will draw mixed reaction, but I think it looks great. All the unique and quirky style of the MK40, but with the hand wound movement and updated case. It was obviously popular as all 500 pieces sold out in less than 5 minutes it seems.

Not a fan of the large Arabic on a Speedy, but looks pretty well done.

I actually really like this one a lot. Cool story behind it too with Ben Clymer's Grandfather and his watch being the muse for not only Hodinkee but this LE speedy. I also think a lot of folks grabbed these up on spec, but, according to the article Omega is selling some of them at boutiques too, so not all 500 were sold on the site apparently. Prob another reason they went so fast.

Ah, I didn't catch that they were also being sold directly by Omega. That would make sense though since this is a much larger release than any of Hodinkee's previous limited editions.

I agree, the story behind it is very cool and I think Omega did an excellent job modernizing the design.

It doesn't work imo. The design copies the original but loses a lot of functionality - no am/pm indicator and the triple date is gone. And, it's 3x the price of a vintage version.

Definitely not the best value if all you want is the design and functionality of the original. For those seeking that "extra something" though, the LE does well in that department. That feeling of exclusivity and rarity is a really great feeling for most. It's also not an easy feeling for everyone to obtain as its usually price prohibitive, and by nature, rare. Not many can deny that they love that sense of "I have something you can't have." So, I think there are folks out there, myself included, that really like the fact there is more to this speedy than just the intended purpose of telling time, functioning as a watch/chronograph.

Ultimately, everyone is going to have their own view, which is not only perfectly fine but incredibly necessary. I feel it might be a bit polarizing too (as we are already seeing it seems).

So, what is the price of admission?
I have found that some people just like to hear themselves typing.

Friends don't let friends buy G-Schlocks.

Don't be effing around... get the Patek and be done!!

You think I'm condescending...?? Do you even know what that means... ??

It was $6,500 but looks like they’re all sold out online. Might have to go to a boutique AND be lucky if you want one.
