    My fathers Genève

At a relatively young age I inherited my father's Omega Genève which was a wedding gift to him from my mother sometime in the 70's.
He wore it during his military duty and all throughout his civilian blue collar career. I think it originally came on a leather strap but he eventually had an aftermarket bracelet fitted to it.
I wore it as a kid and young adult before eventually putting it in storage. I've bought and sold watches since then and not really given wearing it much thought. I never forgot I had it though and I'll never part with it.
So I got it out of storage today and removed the old flimsy bracelet. Set the date and wound it, still running. I've ordered a brown 18mm brown taurillion leather strap for it and look forward to wearing it again every now and then.

Many don't consider Genèves fine watches, the later ones especially but the scratches, dings and dents tell a story and knowing my father wore this from his wedding day and until the day he passed brings a smile to my face.
I'll post a few shots once I've got it on a strap. Enjoy

Lovely watch, and even better memories of your father.

Enjoy the watch, and never forget the past...

It's the most valuable watch you'll ever own, by virtue of the connection you have with it :)

Most of these models came with a leather strap, but with the straight line lug to lug they look very nice with a mesh bracelet.

    Cheers

I personally think any watch that still runs well after 40 years, feels comfortable on the wrist and causes you to smile just a bit when you look at it, is a great watch. Looking forward to the pics.

Not a bad watch. Then like today Omega was expensive and not a watch that lots of folks could afford

Omega Geneve was not a cheap watch back then. it was one of the entry level models but still was not cheap to buy

Your father seems to have treasured that watch as it was both an expensive watch and one your Mom gave him. However he also did not let it become a safe queen/watch that was worn on only nice occasions. He wore it everywhere

You should have it serviced(cleaned/oiled and adjusted) so it will run for years to come.

I've just handed it in for a service today. I asked the watchmaker to take a few photos of the process which he happily obliged to do. He estimates a couple of weeks.

I'll update the thread when it's back and on a strap.

    Thanks again.

    My fathers Genève

Great story. I’ve owned two Geneves and they truly are humble well built mechanical watches. They’ve since been sold and off to new owners.
Looking forward to the pics of your omega after service and new strap.

Is the crystal on this sapphire? If not, it's the cleanest vintage crystal I've seen.

A great watch, and a personal history nothing else will come close to matching. Thanks for sharing!
