Got a speedmaster in 1978 for my 13th BD. Bought my first GMT (used) at 18 for less than the cost of the SpeedMaster new. I think they both have timeless looks, but the GMT is a bolder more recognized tool. I like wearing watches other than my Rolex's to see who recognizes an unfamiliar piece. Then we usually talk horology for awhile.

    Re: Omega or Rolex?

I just bought a Speedy Pro. I have three Omegas (a real '57 Constellation, late 70's-80's Quartz that was my grandfather's, and the Speedy) and they run just fine. I find the Daytona a bit hard to read, and frankly prefer that en français you can use one word (tachymètre) to replace three (units per hour).

I also don't like cyclops magnifiers so have steered clear of Rolex divers for the same reason. But it annoys me. Because 40mm is... the ideal size for me. I've said it elsewhere, but my next is a Tudor Black Bay GMT.

I love a GMT complication and the 200M WR is hard to beat. And no cyclops!

Wouldn't mind a Bond Seamaster too, but if I can have all that and a GMT for less... well then.

I've owned this watch, but once I acquired my SeaDweller 50, never wore and sold for a loss...
