OMEGA partnered with the GoodPlanet Foundation, an organisation founded in 2005 specifically to promote environmental awareness and sustainable development. Now OMEGA has released a new watch, first introduced at Baselworld, called the Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M GoodPlanet and it's intended as a tribute to the GoodPlanet Foundation and its work.
Fittingly, the OMEGA Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M GoodPlanet has a distinctly maritime look, with a bold, blue lacquered dial with applied indices. The hour, minute and seconds hands are polished, faceted and rhodium-plated, and the central GMT hand is fashioned from aluminum.
The hours and seconds hands and GMT hand are coated with white Super-LumiNova that glows blue in the dark. The minute hand, and the dot at 12 o'clock on the unidirectional rotating divers' bezel, are coated with another type of white Super-LumiNova that emits a green glow
The date is located at 3 o′clock while the 24-hour GMT scale is printed in orange on the polished, dark blue bezel. A second time zone can be tracked using the scale and the central GMT hand. The brushed and polished 43mm stainless steel case features a helium-release valve at 10 o'clock. Water-resistant to 600 metres, the watch features a domed sapphire crystal with non-reflective treatment on both sides.
The sapphire window in the case back, with "GoodPlanet Foundation" engraved around it, reveals the watch's movement; the OMEGA co-axial Caliber 8605, with automatic winding and a three-level co-axial escapement with an Si14 silicon balance spring.
The watch comes on a stainless steel bracelet for $8,100, or for $100 less, there's an ocean-inspired blue rubber strap. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of each Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M GoodPlanet watch will go towards the Foundation's project to preserve mangrove and seagrasses in South East Asia.
