There probably are some NOS c. 2500 POs in AD showcases in the US. In fact, I'd be surprised if there weren't. However, you also can easily score a pre-loved PO2500 on this forum.

As for which to get, I would have urged the 2500 only a year ago. But after having owned an 8500 for a few months, I've come around to preferring it (unfortunately for my 2500 ).

Truthfully, you can't go wrong with either model!

i have PO with caliber 2500D, the last iteration of 2500s, with transitional movement before 8500. Apart from the movement, the reason i choose 2500 is the thinner profile, deep black bezel (vs grey on 8500), sharper hands, and solid caseback with beautiful seahorse engraving. Also it has an antimagnetic cover behind the caseback, so it should be enough to provide from magnetic influence although not so much as Si-14 on 8500.

Bottom line : if you really care for technical reason, go with 8500, But in my opinion, 2500 has nicer design overall. So its a matter of technical vs design.

BTW my 2500 is very accurate, in 11 months only +4 seconds and very stable regardless position.
    Cheers!

They still sell the PO 2500 in Omega Boutique's in Europe so I guess you can find it in the US as well.

BTW I would go for the new PO because this is the next level of craftsmanship. The manufacture movement, the ceramic bezel and the new bracelet are outstanding. I bought mine just for a week and since hat I enjoy it every minute.

If you prefer buying "new", the 8500 is only going to go UP in price so if you want one, I'd get it now before the next price increase. As someone else stated, you can purchase a VERY nice pre-owned 2500 right here for a very good price...I'd expect we'll see some "pre-owned" 8500's in the coming year or so as well.

Had both but ended up with the PO 2500d as I just preferred the looks better. It's also much thinner than the PO 8500. Don't get me wrong, the PO 8500 is a superb piece with a superb movement but imo not as classic, classy or elegant as the original PO. Try both on and you'll know which one you should get.

If the movement is important then the new 8500 perhaps carries more appeal. If cost is a factor then either buy 8500 now, as it will only increase in price at AD's, or the 2500. Where looks are concerned you need to try them both on and see which one you prefer on the wrist. Let us know how you get on and good luck!

ah the age ole question..ha ha.
its so subjective, always go try both on....i was set on a 2500 but as soon as i saw and tried on the 8500 next to the 2500 it felt and looked way better so many nicer little design features and looked/felt more substancial and expensive. My father in law has the 2500 and every time i see his im so glad i went the extra for the 8500, even he wants to update his now. But go try them both on.

I guess it's a matter of budget and taste (or a combination of both).

As for budget, I could have bought a 8500.
As for taste, I ended up buying the 2500D last Saturday because I liked it more than the 8500.
BTW the 30% discount at the AD had no influence in my decision, but was a nice bonus

    Good luck on your decision!

This isn't quite true. The 8500 had been in production for several years before the 2500D was built. The "D" version was a development for those watches which would continue without the 8500 (like the SMP) and, when it went into production, it was used in the remaining run of old-shaped Planet Oceans. It isn't really "transitional" since it is a 2500 and used in the Planet Ocean which always housed the 2500.

As for which is best, objectively it's probably the 8500 but there are plenty of aesthetic reasons to prefer the 2500. I'd go a try both on and see which one feels right.
