Speedmaster 3539.50 Caseback Missing Globe Logo Etching

    Hi All,

I'm looking at a used Speedmaster Reduced II 3539.50 from trusted eBay vendor sabashioyakiz1. It looks to be in near mint condition and is a complete kit with box/papers/warranty cards. I have some concerns stopping me from jumping on it:

    1. It is missing the "anti-counterfeit" globe etching on the caseback. I suspect it was polished off during service. Is there any other reason this would be missing? Every picture of the 3539.50 caseback I've been able to find has this etching.
    2. The seller claims the watch has been serviced in January 2019. He does not have any paperwork for this service and is going off of what is written on the underside of the caseback. Can this be trusted as a legitimate service record?
    3. As he removed the caseback to provide me with the picture, does the rubber seal need to be replaced to maintain water resistance?

Thanks in advance for any insight!

Missing the globe and no service paperwork, avoid. Not worth the risk

I don't think these reduced have any etched globe. It started a couple of years after that.

FYI, the "anti counterfeit globe" is a myth, in that it has anything to do with authenticity. It has everything to do with Omega trying to stop Costco from reselling watches. The globe etching was conceived to improperly use copyright law to control the resale of items that have been already previously sold

Google "costco vs omega". Here's a relevant link:

I think you are talking about the original Reduced 3510.50. All of the Reduced II 3539.50 pics I've seen have the logo.

Yes, I saw that article in my research and am familiar with the origins of the logo. However, I am not questioning the watch's authenticity. Only wondering if any 3539.50 watches were sold without the etching as I have never seen it missing. It is my understanding that it must have been polished out if it is missing. Is this correct?

I've seen many Sapphire Reduced without it. It's my assumption that only Omegas originally sold in a few markets outside the US will have them.

The globe laser etching was introduced sometime in the early 2000's, and not all at the same time for all models. If this watch was produced before the date they started doing it, then that doesn't mean it's fake. It could also have been polished off.

If there's box/papers and it's from Japan, it's very likely not a fake. The caseback was removed for that one photo, so I'm assuming there's another photo to prove the authenticity of the movement....

Omega gaskets are fairly thick and do not need to be replaced after the opening of a caseback. Can't say the same for Seikos, though.

I've bought three Speedy Pros from sabashioyakiz1, the last about five years ago.

All were authentic and condition was better than described.

    sabashioyakiz1 is a reputable seller.

Do you know who serviced the watch?

Omega should tell you if it was serviced by them if you provide them the serial#
