    Speedmaster- Moonwatch or X33?

    Hi guys,
Been getting urges just lately for another Omega, and I've had a long term liking of the Moonwatch,( the original heselite hand wound one) but then I also have a soft spot for higher end Quartz watches.
So, I realise they are two very different watches, and I can't have both (!) but should I get the Moonwatch, which I think is gorgeous, and is such a massive piece of Omega history, or go for the technical electronic wizardry that is the X33?
I've tried both on, ( and also a Z33, but that is way too chunky for me) they both sit well on me, the X33 is very light, almost too light, it feels a bit toy-ish, but looks great.
My thoughts are to maybe go for the X33 sooner, as they will inevitably bring out a new model sooner or later, whereas the Moonwatch will always be around and hopefully Omega will never be stupid enough to try changing it, so that could maybe be a future purchase.

what do you guys think? And advice, opinions much appreciated.

Even if you don't believe it now, you'll end up with both eventually, I imagine. So pick the one that resonates the best with you.

I have both, and I enjoy both. While I think that most people would fall on the side of history when choosing which to get first, the fact that the X-33 is the current official watch (for the ESA, I heard NASA was coming soon, but don't really know about that) is enough to give it its own personality for me.

    Good luck.

Between the two, I say Moonwatch. However, if you like high-end Quartz, the only one with multi-functions that I would ever consider would be a Breitling Aerospace. Sleek profile, titanium case, with 100m water-resistance.
    But that's just me.
    Best of luck.

If it's X33 the plane then get that.

If it's X33 the watch then get the Speedy Pro

    Re: Speedmaster- Moonwatch or X33?

Thanks for all the opinions guys, keep em coming!
i just wish the Moonwatch wasn't so beautiful, it would make my decision really easy, but every time I see one on the black croc strap it just looks so 'right'. Infact if I were to order one, I would probably go for the strap model, as I would never wear the bracelet.
I think perhaps the liking for quartz has been exaggerated just lately as I've just had my Submariner serviced at Rolex after it broke something in the crown stem/winding gear 2 weeks after I dropped it from about a metre onto a carpeted floor..... Might just be a coincidence, but can't help but think how fragile mechanical watches CAN be sometimes, but I know that others will run a lifetime without ever being serviced, so maybe just bad luck with the Sub. On the other hand I'm not keen on the stated 24 month battery life of the X33, and it taking a week or more for Omega boutique (London) to change a battery ( last time I was quoted for my SMP)

Keep the advice coming and I'll keep researching and thinking......

By the way, I was wondering what watch NASA currently run, I assume they won't still be using the hand wound Speedy, but maybe I'm wrong? I guess technology within the shuttle/space station has eliminated the need for a wrist mounted watch now?

    Re: Speedmaster- Moonwatch or X33?

Keep in mind regarding the X-33:

    - You can change the battery yourself. Takes 5 minutes and all you need is a quality screw driver and correct battery ($10 tops for both)
    - Due to the lack of WR, X-33's can be fragile as well. It is well documented that Omega doesn't service the movement, just a full replacement ($$$)

I have owned both watches and still have the Speedy. Came down to not feeling the value of the high end quartz, and as you said, the Speedy just looks so much better.

I have both and tend to favor the X33. Everyone says the Moonwatch is preferable but the X33 is so unique! Service costs are about the same I would imagine.
