    Speedmaster movement finish differences?

anyone know if the sapphire (display back) varieties of the speedmaster has a nicer finish than the standard closed back one? im talking about only the modern/current generation ones. ive been looking at photos and it seems to be the case but its tough to confirm.

Yes 1863 movement is a more decorated version of the 1861. Currently you either get hesalite with 1861 and no sapphire caseback or sapphire front and rear (popularly called sapphire sandwich) with the 1863.

Best combo IMHO is hesalite front / sapphire back but you need to go to 1990 or older pieces, like 3572.50 / 3592.50 models, among others

    Speedmaster movement finish differences?

Here 863 guilt (left, 3592.50) versus later 863 finish on the right (3572.50)
