Definitely service the movement but no need to rebuild it.
I can see that it would be a good idea to have it cleaned and lubricated. I will do that later, I really needed to guarantee I would have the watch back soon. Grandparents let us grandkids pick out our graduation watch. I picked the Speedmaster because I wanted to be an airline pilot. I fly my retirement trip this summer as a captain on a B-787 and really want that watch back on my wrist!

Agreed. Nice watch, and a cool story behind it. You're lucky you still have it. I know plenty of people who lost or sold their heirlooms from earlier in life.
