Can you remove the "5" shield from a Seiko 5 dial without damage to dial?

Like the title says..I see lots of Seiko 5's whose dials I'd like to try in a mod, but I HATE the shield! Anyone have success removing it without messing up the dial? Thanks

There will be a hole on the dial if you do that.

Is that the extent of it--a little hole? I could live with that. What about damage to the dial finish, like chipped or missing paint?

    Apparently it's been done before.

Wow, that's some hatin' right there! The shield is not okay, but a hole in the dial is okay. :)

I guess that's why we have mods, and DIYs and such. Good luck with your mission and give us your result when you try it. The other thread that linked to the "how to" had a pretty decent result.

Ok to remove on black dials as the 2 tiny holes are not easily seen and can be filled with black ink.

On a white dial, the 2 holes would stand out and hence don't recommend removal of the shield on light colored dials.

Beautiful watch! I actually sought a sportsmatic for some time, and almost bought several. I may have to start looking again...(but I'll probably think about how great it would look without the shield).
