Neither is fake, both are legitimate Seiko, factory variations.

When I saw fake Alpinist, I immediately thought who would invest money in an extremely high quality fake of an inexpensive watch. There can’t be much margin or profit there.

It appears to be bigger because of the longer crown, which sticks out more.

The case looks bulkier too. That is the part that makes it hard to believe it's just factory variations like yankee said.

That element of doubt is the main reason I buy from reputable retailers or ADs.

The first photo attached by OP, actually it is two different photos merged together (I took it both). That's why left watch looks bigger.
I've had both watches in hand. What's worried me the most is the fact that you couldn't fully screwd the crown. It leaves small gap between case and crown (because of the shape of the case - too round probably).

In my opinion it is possible that the there are some parts genuine and some not.

Hopefully somebody will open it and check it what is inside.

On the photo below both watches lie side by side.

Given that Marc at LIW has already shown his stock of SARBs having prod dates well after that announcement, shows that they are still in production.

In the pic, the right one looks fake to me.
I bought mine from a reputable source and it looks exactly like the one on the right. Maybe it is a timing thing? SARB017 has been around for like 20 years right? Could the left one be an early run? Modern ones definitely have a lot more gold definition around the date window and bolder text. Also the flat logo.
    You're exactly right.

    It's a timing thing.

Even older SKXs versus "c" variant models have minor differences in bezel machining and font colors.

Its nothing more than differences in manufacturing, as yankeexpress pointed out repeatedly.

And that guy knows his stuff btw.
