I have to admit, I’m extremely skeptical regarding the Seiko hype.
My first venture into Seiko automatic dive watches was with the skx. I found that watch to be utter garbage and it did not live up to the hype one bit for me.
Later I tried the Samurai (not bad), the monster (loved it), and the turtle (not bad either).
I was extremely turned off by the QC issues with Seiko and swore off them after having to do countless exchanges to find an example with the least amount of defects on my various models.
I don't know what possessed me to get a Sumo but I was curious considering one of my most comfortable watches is a behemoth Bulova and the fact that I'm enjoying the 6r movement in my sarbs (I really don't like the 4-5 hours it takes for the date/day to change on my 4r powered Seiko watches. It seems so generic when I observe it doing that).
Pulled the trigger last week on the Pepsi model and after a week on my wrist, wow!
I absolutely love the polished and brushed surface finishes on the case. It fits very comfortably. The Pepsi bezel is very playful and fun. I haven't sized the bracelet yet as I'm enjoying it on a rubber strap so far but I'm guessing it'll be fine on the bracelet as well. The movement is keeping spectacular time (-5sec/day). The lume application is even and thankfully my example is without any defects.
I'll definitely grab the new gen green version once the price drops on them.
