Both use the same grade of Spring Drive. 5R66 (GMT) vs 5R65

    Both use Titanium construction.

The SNR029 LX is 300M without complications - much higher priced at USD6100+ and has less functionality but wears smaller.

The SBDB011 has a 600M GMT with a lower price point at USD4000-4250.

What makes the SNR029 so much more expensive? It can't just boil down to case design.

Which would you choose and why?

I’d go for the SBDB011 because I’ve wanted one for a while now - no other reason than that.

It appears so.. It's a new case design, that's all I can determine anyway. I still would pick the GMT though.

Put like that, why would anyone not choose the GMT? ( just wish the GMT hand was a different colour)

The LX has a higher level of finishing detail, but not enough to justify the price difference. Any premium the LX commands in terms of finishing would be cancelled out by the higher WR spec and functionality of the MM600. But it's my opinion that the LX range serves a specific purpose, and providing value for money is not it, so comparison on that basis is a bit redundant.

I have the SBDB011, and love it. It gets worn more than any other watch I have. For the price differences noted, the GMT is definitely a better deal.

But the SNR029 may fill the spot many wished the SBDB would have filled, and that was a Spring Drive Marinemaster. Instead when it was released, it was a huge scaled up version of the MM300. The size turned many off. The pictures caught my interest, but I would never have considered buying one without trying it on first. The 55mm L to L length is a bit deceptive. That is the measurement across the hex screw lugs. The actual L to L is 52mm.

    Dimension comparison (mm):

    SBDB011 ..............................SNR029
    DIA. 46.0 ..............................44.8
    THK. 17.0. .............................15.7
    L2L. 55.0 (HEX) 52.0 (LUGS).....50.9

So, will the size of SNR029 be more like the SBDB011, or the SBDX017? I am looking forward to trying the SNR029 on, but is it worth the price? .......that is to be determined :)

I would choose the LX diver because I don't like the look of the hex bolts on the sbdb011.

I'd choose the LX diver, mainly due to the slightly smaller size. However, my real preference is the MM300, similar style but IMO looks nicer than both.

Re: SBDB011 (600M GMT) vs SNR029 (LX Diver)

To add some historical reference, when the MM600 was first released in 2005 it was priced at about $6,000. At that time, it was model sbdb001, it was the first springdrive in a diver (sd wasnt in grand seiko divers yet) and it was made entirely of seiko’s grade 5 titanium. So, at that time it was the most accurate mechanical dive watch ever created and essentially the only dive watch made in grade 5 titanium. Since the original release, Seiko has begun to use the 9r/5r movement in other divers, and they reissued the mm600 in pure titanium (with diashield) instead of the premium grade 5 titanium used only on the grand seiko divers (200m and 600m) and the snowflake, etc. when seiko changed the grade of titanium used, they significantly reduced the retail price also. The price for the current sbdb011 is only after 14 years and three msrp reductions. To me, the new LX lacks any of these defining elements. Im curious to see what it looks like in person.
