Cool Seiko 6309-7040 GMT (6309/6117 hybrid movement mod)

A week ago I read an interesting thread about putting a 6117 GMT movement into a 6309-729A case. This thread also mentioned that some sellers on eBay where selling GMT equipped 6309-7040's and the movement was still a 6309. I had to look more into this, so I searched on eBay and indeed I found photos of 6309 movements with 4 hands! Further research yielded this great article => 6309GMT: a how-to of sorts.

I always wanted a modded 6309-7040, and after this I had to have a 6309GMT powering it

A few days ago I managed to buy such a watch. The 6309 movement has been serviced and modified to have a working GMT hand and hack. New gaskets have been installed, but there is no guarantee on water resistance. And thankfully from the seller's photos the case and case back don't look like they have been over polished.

I plan to modifiy this watch further, so watch this space!

Thanks! I received it a week ago, but haven't seen it yet. I'm in Brazil, but had it sent to Europe. Anything posted to Brazil seems to get lost... When I go back to Europe I'll take some pics. The ones above were taken by the seller.

Niccolo, this one fine looking piece and with quite useful features.
May I ask who does the h/w and ss mods?

Occasionally loyswatch on eBay has one. But I bought mine from mixedtitles on eBay. Haven't seen another on eBay since.

Loyswatch is a very well known source of restored Seiko 6309-7040, and the ones he sells are serviced and tested for water resistance. But his prices reflect his fame and reputation. I find that the cases of the 6309's he sells are over polished, and it's especially easy to notice this on the caseback.

On the other hand mixedtitles is not known, but has a good eBay reputation. I messaged him several times before I bid on the watch, and he told me he owns a shop, and employs a watchmaker. His watchmaker did the restoration, service, and mod.

Many thanks for the useful info; I have a spare 6309 which I'd fancy modding like the one you got. :)

Now for a 8F56-0029 movement in a 6309...I really don't think it would work, but dream on..

I have bought another one on ebay from a german seller in not working condition and with wrong bezel insert.

Same hands, same dial, modder unknown, might be the same.

I will show pictures later when i made some.

Nice, I have seen this and like the design.

If it is a 6309 movement, then I assume the fourth hand is driven by a constant gear attached to the day mechanism somehow. Clever..
