    Seiko vintage 7005-8140 iranian army

Hi all, I wonder if anyone had had experience with these? I recently bought one and am a little worried about authenticity after seeing a post on another forum - I cant understand why these would have the problem given their modest value... I'm really happy with it because its stunning and a great size but my concern is the red print seems almost "too good" when I compare to others for sale online?

Any advice or even a point in the right direction would be appreciate.

    Cheers

Looks too good to be true - 50years old & mint n shiny?
Even if never used n kept mint in a drawer it would show some aging, surely?
But if its NOS kept boxed and mint - its quite the find

2 or 3 sold on the Ebay in the UK - I think about £1,000 to £1,500 - but could be wrong - just search sold listings

(On eBay there are so many "fakes" or aftermarket parts fitted to "older" Seiko watches, nothing would surprise me)

look at what you know are genuine Seiko dials of that period and compare the script on your watch - "fakers" never seem to get this exactly "right"

I have no idea if yours is genuine or not - but they seems to have become "popular" - as a few for sale now on eBay

    Sold listings in the UK

Here is a similar style (not Iranian) that is approximately 50 years old that my dad wore, or I should say "worn out". It barely runs, when you shake it, it sounds like loose gear running around inside. I wish I know a shop that can bring it back to life.

It seems that there are a lot of fake (dials) around - date window, hands looking newish, lume too good and not matching, markers wrong, compare all parts of the watch for "equal/appropriate to the other parts" wear - look at your bezel and hands?

you will need to do a bit of research - this should start you off

when I first saw them on eBay....... most never "felt" genuine ..... the eBay ones that is

It's tough, I've done some research and cant get a clear answer. I'm contacting a vintage seiko specialist to ask an opinion. I paid quite high as was new old stock (with original tags and some paperwork / servicing history) and from a seller that has a number of other higher end vintage items with good feedback.

It looks like it could be correct age in terms of lume and the bracelet is definitely an original new old stock (I think) as it matches another I have but perfect condition and is a complicated bracelet with the link system so cant imagine it's worth their while copying it.

The head seems ok but my concern is the red Crest seems almost "high resolution" while many seem to be a bit "messy" or lacking detail. This is the only significant difference I can spot between those online, even on that linked forum the red print is not as messy as those listed on ebay etc but not as clear as mine...

As others have said, accurately printing a dial and engraving a caseback with a unique serial (correct for age etc) is not a small job and the fake factories still haven't perfected this process for much higher end fakes (like Rolex etc) so I cant believe they'd waste their time with the likes of a very low priced seiko and in relatively small quantities (there seems to be "a lot" in terms of a handful for sale all the time however this is nothing compared to the thousands and thousands of high end swiss watches the fake factories churn out).

I just want to be sure I've not been ripped off before I'm past the time for recourse.

Cheers for all the input guys, I'll keep you informed

Very interested in how this turns out. My sister has seen similar in market stalls years ago in the Middle East, but didn't realise that Seiko did actually make real ones!

The dial is a fake. The Seiko printing is off. The S and K are the giveaways.
Real ones go for plenty hence the faking.
