    SKX173 an updated 6309-7040/9

    Hey Everyone,
The 6309 was the first turtle that I fell in love with. However, it is becoming more and more expensive to buy a good example of an unmolested one. The SKX173 seems to be a great alternative if you have a fetish for the lollipop second hand from the factory like me. Aside from the lack of patina why are these watches still selling for barely a premium to the SKX007 after being discontinued?

I dont know if I see too much similarity with the the 6309 to the SKX173. I do see lots of similarity with the the SKX173 and the old 7002 dive watches; thats mainly the reason I bought mine. I modded mine by placing a "Pepsi" bezel on it to make it look even more like an SKX7002-700A. The SKX is a great bargain at the moment for a discontinued model. I think if you can get one for around $200-250 in excellent shape you've done well because they are only going to go up in value. I saw this happen over the years with the yellow SKX A35s. Just a few years ago you could get a like new one under $200 bucks, now I see people are paying $400 plus on auction for them if you can find one. Anyhow, the SKX 173 is a very cool watch especially if you really like the vintage look.

I guess I should have prefaced my initial comment with "For me, I dont see too much .....". With that said, I still think the 173 case is more similar to the 7002. Different eye, different opinion.

You're right, the 6309 7290, the 7002 and the skx173 cases are very very very different

Love the Pepsi bezel! Did you pick it up from Yobokies?
You're absolutely right that it looks like a 7002.
My observation was that the hands and dial share direct lineage all the way through the 6309/7002 and into the SKX173
I just picked one up on a Strapcode Oyster for $250. Not that I'm looking to resell, but I do appreciate someone with more knowledge than me giving insight into the trend of price increases on discontinued models.
