    Stopwatch Question Citizen AV0031-53E

Received my Citizen AV0031-53E a week ago. Love it.

    First 5 days everything perfect!!!

Then the stopwatch minute hand started not returning to the 0 position but about a half minute before 0.

This is my first Citizen so.................

    Is this acceptable variance?

How accurate are these stop watches????

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

The same thing happened to me. My recommendation is to run the chronograph a few times over in 5 minute intervals. Remember that this chronograph is mechanically actuated and you have no way to perform an "all reset" on the chronograph like you would on a standard analog quartz chronograph movement. You have to be careful not to drop the watch and avoid sudden/sharp impacts to the case. In the event the chronograph hands get severely out of alignment, you have no choice but to send the watch back to Citizen for repairs.

If you read the manual, it says there that slight mis alignment of the chronograph hands may occur. The mis alignment you describe of the minute register hand sub-dial when returning the chronograph back to zero is trigger when you frequently start and stop the chronograph. This tends to upset the alignment of the hands so keep this in mind. Perform the 5 interval runs and the minute register hand will re-align itself back to zero.

A flyback chronograph like in the Calibre 2100 is extremely precise. When you have a chronograph whose hands can instantly return to zero, allows for more precise time measurements. The chrono in your 2100 can measure up to 12 hours and the chronograph second hand sweeps across the dial in 1/5 sec intervals.

You have a very high precision instrument in your wrist. Treat it with care.
