24 HR Oris Blue Eagles Limited Edition - Date Change Question

    Good day to all,

I have been lurking in the background for a bit and have recently been given a Oris (BC4) Blue Eagles LE (24 hour) for my 50th by my Wife and Family.
I am semi-new to mechanical watches and have had Casio solar watches previously.

What a beautiful watch to say the least - have liked the aesthetic look for many years but always out of reach price wise until now.

Any way enough of the ramble.

Being a 24hour Oris movement - I have noticed that the watch will change the date just before midday day (12 oclock) at the bottom of the dial.

Is this potentially an issue with my watch as I would have presumed that it would change the date prior to 2300 hours? With the start of the new day at the 2400 (0000) hour mark?
Am I missing something here or do I potentially have some issues?

Thank you for your help in advance,

    Darren and Family

It's a beautiful watch. I suspect this is an assembly error and you should contact Oris. Specifically, in a 12-hour watch, there's a part of the movement internally that tracks am/pm so the date only advances every other time the hand rotates. I suspect that this watch, even though it has a 24-hour hand, still has that component internally and yours is mis-set; it's in the AM position when the hour hand is in the afternoon and vice-versa. Or perhaps the hour hand is just mounted 180° off. I'm sure it's a trivial repair.

Thanks for the prompt reply tdierks - appreciated.
I suspected as much after reading pages and pages through the forums without having to pester anyone. Lol.
But thought I should ask, just in case there were any peculiarities to the movement.
Unfortunately it is secondhand and no warranty now and I don't have the warranty documents nor the certificate booklet. everything else but.
off to the local reputed watch maker on Monday.

    Once again many thanks...

Darren, had a think about this and the date should change at about midnight and not noon. The only reasonable explanation is that there’s some sort of error. I see no reason why a competent watchmaker can’t fix this for you rather than having to send it to the Oris service centre

Thanks Sticky, will be taking it to a watch maker here in South Australia on Monday to hopefully sort it all out. Thanks mate.

Just a quick update so as to be used potentially as a reference point.

Took it to local reputed watchmaker - it would seem that it has sustained a drop at some stage that has offset a couple of the wheels internally.
He will have it for a week and will let me know what he finds, but they are his suspicions thus far, he also confirmed that it should change over at 2400hrs.

Thanks to all for your input, will post what the findings are once he calls me back.

    Good day all,

Just a quick response to the date set issue that I had with the watch.

IT had sustained a fall which offset the reverser wheel.

    It received a full service
    Back seal
    Reverser wheel
Lubricate and adjust date jumper tension
and regulate and adjust beat error.

All in all it is now corrected and the date is changing over at 00:00 hrs or 24 hrs as it should.
Running 'spot on' time wise and a pleasure to wear.

Thank you to all whom gave some feedback - appreciated.

    God Bless,

    Dazz
