The crown on my father's Oris watch came off.

He got the watch during 2010 brand new and I believe that it is a ETA 2824-2 movement. He got this weird wearing habit where he does not pull out the crown the adjust the date at all. After a long period of time, the crown seems to be stuck and when he tried to pull out the crown. It came off from the stem.

Seems like a good time to do servicing as well but because my father is retired, he does not want to spend too much money servicing the watch. So he is trying get his watch serviced at a competent watch maker. He has not do so yet but wondering whether can the crown be reuse, because the 3rd party watch maker may not have ready access to Oris parts.

    There're always aftermarket crowns.

The original crown is a big crown with ORIS logo.

His first step should be to ask the watchmaker if the crown can be re-used. If the answer is no it will be a case of deciding whether to fit an Oris crown (in which case the watch will need to go to an Oris authorised repairer) or if a 3rd party crown is to be installed by the watcmaker. If you decide ti have a 3rd party crown fitted make sure it matches the watch. I say this because many Moons ago I had a Tissot serviced and the watchmaker fitted a 3rd party crown (even though he was a Tissot AD) and it looked a right mess.
