    Oris ProDiver Vulcanized Rubber bezel

Recently I sent my ProDiver off for repair to the Watchmaker in Stoneham, MA due to the fact that the rubber trim around the bezel was starting to come off. While on vacation my two year old son was playing with the watch, and I guess he started picking at the rubber trim. Part of it has come undone, so I sent it off for repair. Today I got an email with an estimate for the repair @ $428.60. This seems completely insane to me. Does anyone know of another trusted place I can send my Oris, or can I purchase this part myself? When I called to discuss the cost, I thought maybe by chance it was for the entire bezel with the trim attached, yet the lady on the phone informed me that it was $303.60 for just the rubber trim. The additional cost was $95 for labor and $30 to ship the watch back to me.

Please help -- if this is my only option, I guess I'll opt to pay it.

    TIA!

    Andy

Only an authorised Oris repairer can get the parts you need. As best I can recall this comprises the outer rubber and the lifty up frame it is attached to. Try getting a quote off the U.S. Oris service centre.

is it not like a rubber o-ring that can be stretched over the bezel?

No. The little metal ring has some tiny studs set into it and the rubber is either bonded or glued (I'm not sure which) onto the ring. I suspect that the litte studs just serve to add grip. On the early chronographs the rubber had a habit of coming off so Oris altered the fastening somehow to prevent this happening.

I ended up having the watch just sent back to me. I couldn't justify the price for just the tiny piece of leather. When I asked about there being any potential place in the price, they said there was not. Just find it utterly insane that the piece of rubber costs $304.
