    Oris rotor noise?

Does the rotor in your Oris make a noise, if so what noise does it make?

I have a new Prodiver with the Oris 744 movement based on the SW500. I'm interested to know what is recognised as normal rotor noise for this movement.

When my rotor spins anti-clockwise I hear the normal clicking as the watch winds.

As the rotor spins clockwise the rotor spins freely and I believe I can hear the rotor bearing as the rotor spins. I'd liken it to the faint sound of a ball spinning in a roulette table. Is this normal?

    Thanks all.

You should be able to hear the rotor if you stick the watch next to your ear but not in normal wear. I'm trying to give you something as a comparison but it's a good bit louder than the ticking so I can't think of anything. I don't know how many watches you own but the SW500 is no louder or quieter than any other auto.
Ryan, I note that your PDC is on a bracelet. Oris bracelets are some of the best you can get but all the same it's worth ensuring that it's not bracelet rattle that you can hear.

I can't hear it unless I put it to my ear. I was initially concerned the rotor was grinding or scraping on the case, it seems a bit quiet for that and the rotor seems to be moving freely. I'm sure it's just the rotor as it's fairly free within the movement in the non winding direction. I've read elsewhere that it's common to misinterpret this movement as grinding. I wouldn't describe it as whirling but I could see that some others would.

Like the second watch but much much fainter.

That's just what it should sound like. You've no idea how relieved I am that you said it was much fainter since no SW500 should be that loud.

It's very faint in comparison but is the same sort of noise as the rotor moves. And I'm relieved I'm just being paranoid.

I've not heard a peep from either my F1 or Pro Diver...so its good to know I'd need to hold it to my ear to pick up anything.

I can only hear it when it's right beside my ear. I was nitpicking I think.

I have an Oris Aquis Chrono with the same movement and know exactly what sound you mean and must say - it's totally normal. The SW 500 is a clone of the Valjoux 7750 which has the same effect. So do not worry, for that kind of movements these sounds a pretty normal.

    Cheers
