Oris Rubber Strap - surprisingly large?

    Hi all,

I have just bought an Oris Great Barrier Reef II (although having some concerns/issues over purchase and paperwork, full story here https://forums.watchuseek.com/f2/buyi...r-3918530.html).

One thing I wanted to ask other Oris owners was about the rubber strap with deployment clasp. I realise that Oris make proper diving watches, so the strap is designed with fitting over a dive suit in mind.
But I have just under 7" wrists, not particularly small, yet I had to tighten the clasp to the tightest setting and put the deployment in the tightest hole in order to get the caseback to sit snug against the back of my wrist. It just fits and no more, and leaves a lot of excess rubber strap wrapped underneath. Is this normal? Or do Oris provide rubber straps of varying lengths and I got a longer style?

I've seen a mention here and there of people cutting their strap, so just wondered if its standard that Oris rubber straps are above average length and the idea is you fit to your size and cut away the excess, or if there's actually shorter straps and I should contact them to get hold of one?

    Thanks

I believe they are all about the same length, I have heard of people cutting theirs, though it's not designed for you to do that.

I would say that if u plan to keep the watch and cutting it would make it more comfortable I would do it.

    This is how mine looks

All rubber Oris straps are the same unless they are cut.

    Here is mine.

The strap can be cut on the side with the clasp but I don't see the need to. The way the strap and clasp are designed make the extra strap not noticeable.

I understand that it is possible to cut the end off that fastens into the sledge to shorten the strap. I'm not sure how to do it as the dealer did mine. Some people cut the long spare end off that wraps around your wrist as they say it make for a more comfortable strap. I would advise against this though as not only will you have a butchered strap if ever you come to sell the watch Oris shaped the strap with a built in safety end and you will be lopping this off.

    Thanks for responses.

I have no intention to cut it, I noticed it was shaped to keep the clasp on and I figure the designers are smarter than I am!
Mine looks like a couple of the wrist shots here, with strap wrapped under. I wouldn't say its uncomfortable, but then I've only tried the watch on not worn it all day yet until I can confirm the paperwork (otherwise I'll return it).

I just wondered if it was deliberately designed this way or had shorter straps options that I was ignorant to.
I don't think I'll mind it, in fact I probably quite like it, it backs up that this is a proper dive watch.

I think Oris designed it to be on the long side so that it could quickly be fitted over a wetsuit. When it was launched I seen to remember them saying how the loose end would just curl around your wrist. Having a tiny wrist I have about half a yard of "curl" going on.
