5 mm leather strap, too thick?

Having a 24mm leather strap made for a bronze GG diver. Is 5mm too thick for a strap to buckle properly? I don't want to wrestle with it every morning/evening?

Any one have a strap that thick? I can go down to 4mm but thought the 5mm would be interesting with the big bronze bastard.

way to thick for me. That thick and they feel like a stiff piece of cardboard around your wrist.

Just have it taper down towards the strap. Breitling OEM are 7 towards the head and 4.5 towards the Buckle.

I have one that is a straight unpadded 6mm ... it is a monster. It was custom made for me by a dear friend. He called it the "fat boy". Believe it or not, it is comfortable.

Going by ONLY the dimension can be VERY deceiving. I posted the above because I wanted to demonstrate a contrast. The strap below, as CastorTroy3 explains, a thick strap that is padded and tapered can be very comfy and look nice if made correctly. The strap below is 8mm at the lugs and 4mm at the buckle. It does work with the proportions of the watch.

So to answer your question ... maybe. It will depend on the style of the strap, the watch you are mounting it on, and your taste.

This is going to be a straight 24mm x 5mm minimalist strap for a Gruppo Gamma Vanguard, It may take a while to break in but I think it will be fine, will post a pic when done.

That's quite an interesting B&M with the Art Deco motif, what's the model?

    thanks,

Absolutely not imho, specially for that type of watch.

These are coming just shy of 5mm (Well blue one may actually exactly the 5mm)

    Super flexible and very comfortable.

Thanks Rob. It is a Baume et Mercier Hampton City that was hand engraved and inlayed by Viljo Marrandi in Estonia.
