    Affordable black crocodile?

Looking for an affordable (not "cheap") black crocodile-style strap to replace the plain black leather strap that came with my Seiko chrono. Any suggestions?

You get what you pay for with exotic skins, so shop around and pay attention to the cut of the hide.

You can also look at the sticky at the top of this forum. It has a list of on line strap vendors you can review for ideas as well.

Debeers genuine alligator is very good, especially for the cost.

Yeah, to clarify, don't want anything made out of an actual crocodile. Responsibly farm-raised alligator is fine. Faux-croc is also fine. I like the style, just don't want a stiff piece of plastic and you can't tell that at all from pictures.

The sticky thread is great, but there are SO MANY vendors listed, it's not much more productive than a Google search.

Don't want to sound ungrateful, tho. Appreciate the response.

ahh, if you are open to crocodile print, that opens up quite a few quality affordable options around. I would personally put Hirsch and Rios on the top of my list for quality leather straps. All their straps are great quality and soft, although you do pay for that quality, so at some point, paying so much for a quality alligator print, you might as well squeeze in a little more and get the real thing. if comfort is a top priority, i would definitely look at the polished black shell cordovans being offered by these two, as shell cordovan is probably the softest, yet strongest leather around, and has that matted shine if want it to still look dressy.

What's affordable? For $90 there is a lot of options. For $50 not so many. I recently picked up a black croc on the sales for for $25 new and it was ok.

Exactly, if all you want is crocodile print, not actual crocodile skin, the Hirsch Duke is the way to go. Lots of color options, well made, good price, actual leather, and the embossing looks nice. It's only drawback is that it is stiff until you get in 4-5 long wears on it.

I have to chime in also and say... if you want a leather strap embossed with an alligator grain pattern, there is not a better strap out there than the Hirsch Duke.
