Altering a strap from Moose Strap Co.

I purchased a strap from the Moose Strap Co. and I like it for the most part, but even though I have a 71/2" wrist, it was a little too long. Instead of tucking the end into the top keeper, I decided to cut about 1/2" from the end. It fits the way I like it now, but to keep the end from fraying I had to burn it. Now it just looks bad. The end looks black and... well, burned. I have done this with other Nato straps and they didn't look this bad. I cut the burned part off and tried a little super glue, but the end started fraying again. It looks bad because it is a light blue color. Any way to stop the fraying without burning it again?

Keep the flame further away from the nylon. Let the radiant heat do the work. It should not blacken the nylon.
