Any tips to repair a hole in leather deployant strap?

I'm not sure if there's any leather experts that can help. But I punched a hole in a pricy leather deployant strap. And like an idiot the hole I made was just slightly too large for the prong that goes through it to secure the strap. It still works luckily but it likes to fall out a bit too easily.

Is there a way to make the hole smaller? Can I fill the hole with some type of material? I'm thinking maybe I can spread some glue inside the hole just to reinforce it? I don't know.

Maybe put the pin in the hole and then fill the hole from the underside with glue.

It can be done anything manmade can be fixed however you would have to split the strap on the edge and insert new thin strip of leather or thin plastic very time consuming and a real PITA! then re stitch and punch, it's possible to insert an eyelet like a shoe lace eyelet but finding one that size will be a real .....! doing the eyelet will limit your use on other watches unless they happen to be the exact same size lug to lug/........ OR unfortunately count your losses and chalk this one down to experience.

or you could replace the buckle with one with a slightly larger tang.
