    anyone ever worked with ostrich?

I have seen some Ostrich leg straps posted here and I need one for my Beast, well also for my Monster, and maybe one for that Zilla am working a deal on. Anyone worked with this leather? Should i try it or should I delay my next watch fix (NO NO don't Delay the Zilla!) If you have experience working with Ostrich please drop a reply. (and also where you got your leather and how happy were you with it)

Ostrich, especially the full quill cuts, make very nice watch straps. Very soft, pliable, durable, and have a great texture as well.

One of my favorite exotics for watch straps.

I am taken more by the leg leather than the quill cuts, but to each his own. Just a little concerned on what oz thickness is available. Tend to like a thicker watch strap.

Most of the ostrich straps I have are pretty much a standard size, 2.5-4mm, give or take.

Not too thin, but not to thick as well unless they are really over padded.

Ostrich leg is fairly thin leather so strap makers will have the flexibility to keep it thin or add layers or padding to thicken it. They are fairly easy to find also on eBay or forum strap makers

The question centered around has anyone out there made a strap with Ostrich leather. I am to the point of DYI not that I need the straps rather that they interest me. Ostrich seemed like a fun finished product. I am still looking for an old pilots jacket for distressed goat hide.

Hides are pretty thin and easy to work with. I have sourced a few for strapmakers I know. The scales look pretty gnarly but are surprisingly easy to cut through. The EBay ones seem to be fine. I have used several of them.

BTW, I do not actually make straps so please don't get that impression ;) . Toad is an interesting hide of about the same thickness and consistency if you are looking for novel things to work with.
