Can someone help me understand the allure of butterfly clasps?

I've tried ~7 watches with butterfly clasps and have been 0-7 in getting a comfortable fit. Why do watch companies continue these types of shenanigans?

It may depend on wrist size. I have a 6 1/2" wrist and find butterfly clasps way more comfortable than single folds.

My take is that butterfly clasps hide the hardware/clasps for a more fluid look.

Because some users find them useful and comfortable. Any watch or related attachments are like beauty -- in the eyes of the beholder.

I think it also depends on your specific daily activities and individual ergonomics. I work on a computer about 9 hours a day and wear my watch on the same side that I use the mouse, so I get a lot of contact between the underside of my wrist and my desk. I do not like thick clasps, and butterfly clasps tend to feel thick to me. But if I'm just lounging around, it's fine.

They’re just more comfortable, at least with the bands I’ve owned. It just hugs my wrist better with the butterfly clasp. I’m also used to one piece bands. 6 3/4” flat wrist. I also expect my leather bands will last much longer as the metal takes on the wear from putting the watch on.

You can get rid of the thick and ugly clasp.

I have large and small watches with butterfly clasps. They're extremely comfortable - provided that the manufacturer includes half-links. Not better than a fold-over, but more elegant for dressier watches.

Any clasp, butterfly or fold over, tend to suit larger wristed wearers.

They're a real safety net for higher priced watches (compared to buckle & tang) and do far less damage to the strap. I do prefer single fold with some of my other watches tho, as they're easier (and faster) to don & ditch
