do you use the extra ring of your zulu 5/4 ring?

I'm curious how many of you have your 5/4 ring Zulu threaded like this:

i threaded my below one similarly, and it works (as in the strap tightens on the inner/lower strap and not on the one that goes through the spring bars), but the "inner" strap is waay too long so i'm going to shorten it and see if i can get it to more closely match lug:lug of the watch as the example above.
It would be really nice to have a Zulu with 5/4 rings but with the usually thinner nato style strap. the Zulus from cheapestnatostraps are something like 1.7mm. the thickness is ridiculous. does anyone know if such a thinner zulu exists?

Anyway, curious as to your thoughts!

I have read/seen the method shown in the above photos as a "more secure" option but I prefer the traditional way which IMHO is secure enough. Plus the pictured method simply does not "work" on my 7-in wrist.

Interesting. I have never seen that configuration.
In general I don't like NATO straps and prefer zulu.

My understanding is that the photo you show is actually a nato. Aren't zulus just one piece with 3 rings total? The natos have the extra strap piece that isolates the watch as illustrated. Forgive me if I'm wrong

I had my Seiko SKX011J rigged that way on a five-ring Zulu for a while. The last time I swapped from the steel bracelet to the Zulu I got lazy and rigged it as one would do a Nato or four-ring Zulu.

The watch wears a bit more comfortably this way. It does not seem to me that the safety aspect is lessened much...there is still pressure on the pins either way when the watch is worn.

If I get a 4 or 5 ring Zulu or NATO with a watch, I usually cut and melt it into a 3 ringer.

NATO straps generally have thin rectangular hardware and thinner strap thickness. Think Daniel Wellington (ugh).

Zulus are usually made with thicker material and have thicker hardware with rounded corners.

@OP: FWIW, I got a 5-ring Zulu from Clockwork Synergy that feels a bit thinner and more flexible than those from Cheapestnatostraps. Clockwork isn't a lot more expensive than CNS and you might be able to find something you like. I think I got mine with free US shipping too, which, all in all, makes for quite a good deal.

That's the way I have mine threaded.
