    First strap: Somewhat unorthodox

So I'm working on this Steampunk-inspired watch:

cobbled together out of a Helenarou case and a cheap pocket watch. I'm trying to go for the "old bits revived with new bits" look. So it needs a matching strap. This is what I've got so far:

It's an old belt I found at the thrift store :D I just have it glued right now. Going to stitch tomorrow. As for a buckle, I'm still not sure what I'm going to do. I don't want to use a normal buckle. I want to come up with some completely different closure system. I'm thinking of something like hood pins on a race car.

edit: Skivers are hard to use, btw.

i like the look of the strap , great design on it.

that is going to turn out to be a very cool looking strap. I think a tooled strap would blow most of the straps made now out of the water. Good luck in finishing it.

    Great project!

I really like the looks of the watch, sure is one of a kind. The strap will look great on it!

    Cheers!

I think I'm just gonna rivet the lug ends. Stitching will be hard over the tooling.

Thrift stores are a great source for old leather :D While I was picking this one up, I grabbed every other leather belt they had. A couple of nice thick black ones and one that was a really thin layer of red leather on a cardboard (!) backing. All for a couple of bucks each. Also had to throw back a lot of really cool belts that turned out to be vinyl.

Lots of bags, too. After I use up the belts I'm going to go back for some purses :D

Now that I've got the movement working (finally got the movement spaced out right so the crown will fit properly, and then cut the stem to length), I can see what it will look like complete (more or less):

and with my new favorite photo prop:

Still working on a closure system. Gonna hit up the Tandy Leather when I'm in town this weekend.
