Question Hook & Loop Velcro starps - Pro's And Conn's

I have several H&L Velcro/ballistic nylons ones. One is by "The Band", a second by "5.11", the third by "MtM" and the last one came with a "Luminox"

All, Except the one by "Luminox" (Surprisingly?) keep up with the hard conditions I put them throe, very comfortable and easy to adjust depending on weather and clothing, dry fast after short periods in the water. The only "Con" i can think of is that they are somewhat "Tough" when new.

    Yet

They seem to be very hard to find, and those i could find on the WWW seem very pricey to what they actually are, adding to that total lack of verity in colors and material.

Can anyone explain the above? Almost no interest is this kind of bands?

Lost a really nice Seiko that I had stupidly put on a Velcro strap and went sailing. Don't use velcro straps on sports watches.

Probably the same reason Velcro isn't popular with shoes.

I wouldn't mind it actually. Velcro is totally under utilized in our lives.

I think Velcro is great, but they can be pretty industrial looking, even for a sporty strap. I think the biggest problem, though, is that some Velcro doesn't work as well when wet.

I have two: a NASA from Kizzy and a BandRBands. With 6.5"wrists, neither fit properly if the watch has lug-to-lug of over 47mm or so . Slightly too long even though I got the small BRB. Other than that, I really like them.
I agree with not using for sports or water activity.

Agree. No Velcro for my straps.

I HATE THE BIG ORANGE BUTTON. IT MAKES NO SENSE. WHY IS THE ACTUAL "POST" BUTTON A LITTLE ONE AT THE BOTTOM.... rant over

    Now let's retype my reply...

I don't understand the comments regarding VELCRO® and water. BTW, it is a registered trademark... I have used 'hook and loop' fasteners for decades for various kit and securing equipment, including in diving operations. I have never suffered an ill consequence, lost kit, etc. Note that NASA uses plenty of these type fasteners on the EVA suits and they hold up without issue during NBL training (wet) as well as actual EVA (zero gravity, +200° to -200° depending on shade or sun....). Could it be that the quality of the material is better for these applications?

Pros - won't rust, infinitely and quickly adjustable, can be had in all sorts of colors

Cons - integral to the strap (once it needs replacing, the whole strap is lost), traps all sorts of crap (hair, lint, SAND) and is loud as $..t especially at night while you are trying to be as quiet as possible. I still loathe the person who thought is was a good idea to replace the buttons on BDU pockets with HnL....

I had a velcro strap on my Casio Marlin for years with no problems.
