How to take the shine off of a strap?

Wear and tear over the time will do the trick.

    As above, wear it.

The strap has probably got some form of laquer on it that simply won't rub off and I wouldn't advise using a chemical to remove it as you could further damage the strap

You could use a scotch bright pad or a sponge with the rough material on one end just make sure its the minimally abrasive one. brush lightly in one direction should knock the shine off.

Stick in your back pocket for a few weeks. Don't take it out when you do a wash.

Put it in a small container 3/4's full of uncooked rice and shake.
