Looking for suggestions for tool to punch holes in leather

I've got a few leather straps now and I'm always always in between the holes!

To solve this problem I'm looking to buy a watch hole making tool. I can find plenty of cheap hole punching tools but I want something that does a clean job of it and hopefully cuts rather than having to use brut force to slowly 'wiggle' a uneven hole in the strap that looks like a mess!

    Any suggestions please?

Go to a shoe maker and ask them to punch a hole. It costs $2 and they do a much better job then I do. I never did buy a proper tool. Why bother if it's just $2.

    I bought this one, https://www.amazon.ca/Ohuhu-Heavy-Le.../dp/B00P61YA18

Works like a charm. Though the smallest hole is 2.0mm so it won't do the super small holes. It's been fine punching an extra hole in all my Rios1931 straps.

Is that all leatherworkers do? They don't do something special so it doesn't fray?

If you can find the Al Stohlman punch set, buy it. Perfect for adding holes to watch straps and belt. High quality interchangeable punches in a metal handle.

Tandy Leather carries a number of leather punches that work great for straps.

That Amazon in post #3 is unavailable today.

I once got a good one from these guys, Micro-Tools. Mine is like the picture here, and works really well.

The hollow punches do the best job imho; they leave a cleaner hole and don't drift out of alignment like the pliers-style punches can. Here's an example from Amazon, although I prefer the metric versions:

Re: Looking for suggestions for tool to punch holes in leather

My problem with punches is getting them exactly centered. If you are doing a row of hole and can't get each one perfectly centered and equidistant, it looks terrible. The "nail punch" in post #8 looks like it would be very easy to center the hole but also looks like it pierces the leather rather than cuts a hole.

    Any advice?
