    Made my first strap! UPDATED

UPDATE 4/11/14, more straps posted! Well I figured I'd try my hand at making a watch strap. After practicing a few stitches and cannibalizing some old belts I have my first final product. A few things I've realized, the french skiving knife I bought sucks, I def need something thinner and wider like a japanese style. Also a strap end punch will be much needed next time around, too. Regardless, I'm definitely hooked and can't wait to start on my next one! :)

Exacto knives and a heavy metal ruler work better for me. Go easy on the stitches.

Thanks, I'm still exploring the different ways these things can be stitched and I agree stitching the whole thing may not have been the best choice. I'll make sure the next one is a little cleaner.

looks good for starters. I imagine with more time spent the more refine they'll be, keep up the great work.

Thanks, the underside of the bands turned out kinda crappy at the tip because the end wasn't cut evenly. Plenty of issues I've found and definitely want to improve :)

Fresh xacto blade and a metal ruler definitely goes a long way. Better craft comes with time... and better tools! Can't do it overnight.

What do you use for a cutting surface? I've found that as I cut under the ruler my leather is soft enough to flex and distort my cut. I went to a rotary cutter and it seems to work better but I know there's a better way
