I'm looking for a new strap for my Speedmaster. I'm interested in buying the most "authentic" military strap possible - i.e. if I were in the RAF, what strap would I be issued with?
From looking around, it seems that the MoD standard (http://www.h-spot.net/watches/mod/watchstraps_2001.pdf - assuming this hasn't been superseded?) calls for a woven nylon strap in Admiralty Grey, with welded joints, 280mm in length, 20mm wide, 1-2mm thick, with brass, chromium plated buckle/prong/loops.
Is that what you'd still be issued with as standard in the RAF? Would it always be Admiralty Grey? And does that standard refer to what people call a "NATO" or a "G10" strap? I see that some straps that people refer to as "NATO" have three loops, but some only have two - and some have four or more. What's the difference between these and "Zulu" straps? There's a lot of conflicting information out there :)
Does the MoD have a sole supplier that they use? I've seen a lot of very similar things online, but I want to get the "real deal" if I can. If anyone can link me to a good supplier I'd appreciate it.
Thanks in advance for your assistance.
