I'm set on buying an Invicta 8926ob and would like to add a NATO strap to it. I don't know if NATO is a brand or just a type of strap, but what do you think about NATO straps that are sold on eBay for just a few dollars? Is there a good reason to pay more for them? They all seem to not be branded anyway...
NATO is the name of the type of strap. The difference between cheaper and more expensive straps is the quality of the nylon used. The cheaper ones may be rougher and therefore, more scratchy against the skin.
He won. Trademarks have held up. Lots more in the 3 prior threads linked by iuam. And since there have been reasonably recent posts about eBay listings being taken down, he's still out there.
So, by US law, it's *not* simply a type of strap.
Back to the OP...you're getting what you pay for. Cheap perlon straps are super-thin, the hardware is flimsy. Perlon needs to be heat-sealed; this may not be done very well, and leave some very rough edges. Cheap nylon tends to be very thin.
Also, always read the fine print. Many of those lowball straps are sold by Chinese sellers, with "economy shipping". Translation: SLOW shipping. One such is showing arrival dates between Sept. 18th and Oct. 24th...so 3-8 weeks. Is a wait that long, worth saving $15?
I have worn cheap Chinese natos for years and have had no problems. I replace them annually. Wash them in the machine when needed. They hold up fine. Just make sure you get them long enough. I need 29cm or longer straps
I buy a 4 pack of natos on amazon for $11.99. They have them in 20cm and 22cm. I think they're called Vetoo. They aren't real high quality, but get the job done.
Thanks guys, I ended up buying 4 or 5 "Premium" NATOs and 2 Perlons from CheapestNATOstraps.
