Nato straps (seatbelt nato) are so easy to make! But..

With one caveat however, cant find the right sized loops. The ones I got from thebuckleguy are too high in clearance so the strap slips out easily. For the most part it works though. I should have believed that 1 review on their site. Does anyone know of a place that sells just the hardware? Seems so sad to sacrifice a good nato for its hardware only.

Anyways, I didnt know until I tried myself just how easy and dirt cheap it is to make natos! Love this seatbelt material too. Took me about 10 minutes to put together and sew.

Looks great! Check here for hardware(I'm sure there are others): https://www.alibaba.com/showroom/nat...-hardware.html
Thank you, I'm flattered, but, please don't click any "Likes" for me (unless there's a prize for "most likes")?

You should do a tutorial on making them. It would be a good project for my wife. :-D

Otto Frei (ofrei.com) or Esslinger perhaps.

Or, here's a thought. I don't really care for the short strap or the hardware, unless that hardware's particularly low profile. If you want the understrap, but want to ditch the hardware...stitch on a keeper loop onto the end of the short strap, as well as one up by the buckle for its standard use. I've never seen it done that way, but it should work.

I can try alibaba although I've never ordered anything from distributors there due to the minimum requirements. What the heck am i going to do with 200+ of them lol.

Tutorial would be easy. Literally 3 steps. I can do one with pics later when I start on other straps once I get the correct hardware but its simply 1. cut to length 2. position hardware 3. glue (optional) and sew. Having a donor really helps to get a bearing on things. Scissors and a lighter (to seal any cut or hole punched edges) are also needed.

@gangrel, if im understanding correctly, you mean make it look like a regular strap albeit 1 piece? Youll still need a keeper loop no?

lots of sites doing a search on google. Mine just came from ebay. Search 20mm seatbelt nylon.

A donor as in another nato strap. Just copy it basically.

had to make use of the larger loops i have so i made a double thick version. Turned out pretty nice if i have to say so myself. Got to trim the stitching a bit but otherwise Im loving it.

stitching is a bit rough on the strap end but practice makes perfect? Did a double colored thread, not sure what you call it in sewing machines but when the machine threads down it threads black and when it pulls up it threads orange.

area where the watch rests is just 1 material thick. Didnt want to put too much pressure (if any) on the bars

Need to figure out how to stabilize the hole. Does anyone have advice? Cant really burn it or seal it with a lighter as its too small and i risk burning the strap around it. I tried heating up a nail and sticking it through the hole thinking the heat would seal the edges but that didnt seem to work too well as the nail cooled off too fast.
