Confused Need help to remove bracelet from center lug *new poster*

    Hi,

I've just recently started maintaining my own watches, but my Pierre Cardin 3738 is presenting a problem with the bracelet. It was my first good watch and I've had it for 10 years now. It is filthy and scratched and I'm trying my hand at cleaning and polishing it. I've got an ultrasonic bath, but no idea how to detach the bracelet. All the guides online say to get between the lugs, but I don't have any (or at least not the traditional kind). The pins in the side of the band don't respond to a pin-push either. Please help!

    :) Kelly

Good question. I would not force anything until you can figure out how the links can be removed, as it looks pretty frozen from age even after the ultrasonic bath.

You might try re-posting this in the "Pocket Watch and Vintage" forum to see if any vintage experts will chime in.

Otherwise, this would be best left to a good vintage watch tech.

    Good luck.

i am only guessing, but it looks like the watch may just pop out of the band. is there cut under the crown toward the back?

I took it to a place. Cringed while I watched the guy hammer it pretty forcefully, but the pins finally came loose - and fortunately no scratches or damage. They were just stuck in there with age and grime. Thanks for your help :)

The underside of those links sure do look like they were designed as grime catchers - post a pic once it's been through the ultrasonic.

The ultrasonic wasn't able to hack it, so I went at it with some polish and an electric toothbrush too. You can see in the last pic how much the grime had corroded the plating. On top of being a grime-catcher, the links like to catch arm-hairs between them too. Won't be wearing it again for a while, but this was a fun exercise to pull it apart and clean it properly. Thanks for your help :)
