Are OEM straps worth the money?

Hello all, long time lurker first time poster. I recently purchased a Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Chrono with the black alligator strap. I'd like to get a brown strap as well, but the OEM strap is $400 (or $475, though I can't for the life of me figure out why one is more expensive than the other). I know... "You just bought a $10,000 watch and you're nickel and diming the strap?" Even so, as the title says; are OEM straps worth the money?

I welcome both opinions and possible facts on why they are or are not worth it.

If the strap isn't curved at the lugs or some other custom fit thing, you can usually find very fine aftermarket straps easily. The high end models from Hirsch, for example, are as nice as anything I've ever seen. My Hirsch Viscount looks better, has better specs and feels nicer than nice gator straps that I own from Breguet, GP, ML and others. It gets trickier as you shop for cheaper straps, but I still think you can do well for $100-$200.

I apologize as I see this has been addressed before. Mods if you want to delete it I won't be mad

The answer is no but you know exactly what your getting, it is very convenient, and the premium brands are premium quality. I buy them all the time but I usually just stalk the forum and get them for 50% off. i haven't owned a JLC, nor the strap, but I imagine they are top notch. The customs that compare are usually 6 weeks + wait time and cost the same amount but are actually better and nicer.

Meaning you wait for someone to sell theirs or you find sales/deals.

Everyone has to define worth in their own way. Cost vs quality is very subjective, IMHO.

Can't comment of JLC unfortunately, but I bought an OEM for my Omega Dynamic and it cost me $180. Was it worth it? No, I could've gotten custom made for similar or better quality for slightly less. But I could get the same leather, finish and color with a custom or elsewhere, only from Omega.

So in essence, if you can get the same color, leather and finish easily, I'd recommend custom straps (even Camille Fournet and Jean Rosseau are less than $400).
