I thought I would share some pics of my new strap for the Hammy and do a bit of a mini review at the same time. This is my first review so I hope you enjoy. After much searching and nearly going colour blind, I finally settled in a B and R bands start for my Pan Europ. I wanted to get a more vintage feel to the watch without using some typical rally style straps. I wanted to capture more of a feel rather than a period if that makes sense.
I went for the 22mm classic vintage cognac ecru stitch, cost $70 + postage. Strap took about 10 days to arrive from US to UK but I did choose snail mail option so no worries there. The Pan Europ has curved spring bars and I was unsure if the strap would work but I had other watches it could go on if it didnt work. I chose a strap that was around 3mm thick and for a medium wrist.
Initial impressions when the strap arrived were good. I really like the colour and simple stitch but the strap was very stiff. I am happy to say that after a few minutes of bending and warming the leather up, it softened up really well and gave a lot of flex.
Fitting the strap was really easy, even with the curved spring bars. I simply rolled the ends over a harder surface and they became very pliable and the curved bars slipped in easily. Next step was to make sure it fitted against watch head. again, no worries here, the leather is thin enough and softened straight away and fitted snugly. i have tried to capture some close ups of the curved bars with strap fully fitted
The quality of the leather is very good and finished nicely. It is thick enough to have a good feel but thin enough to be pliable and as I said, It softened up very quickly and I imagine it will only get better with age. The edges are finished nicely and no fraying. The stitching is perfect, for the minimal amount. Time will tell how the colour and texture wear in. My only very very minor issue is that I would have preferred 1 slightly wider keeper but these work well. Also, and again this is personal taste, I will likely swap out the buckle, I find it a tad thin. I was hopingto have used the clasp from the Pan Europ leather but this strap is slightly thicker and the deployant would not close properly.
Overall, I am very happy. I am looking forward to getting a new buckle on it and simply getting it worn in. Some more pics of the strap closed up. Although I have just realised I am posting a review without a mandatory wrist shot! Shame on me. I hope you have found my views useful. I have a couple of B and R straps and will have no worries buying more
