Off Topic post Quick Release or Not to Quick Release, that is the question ?

As the title of the post says....."Quick Release or Not to Quick Release, that is the question ?"

In 2020 Hirsch are fitting all straps with Quick Release Spring Bars, this is being phased in currently.

Reactions to Quick Release are mixed, some like it, some don't, it really does seem a mixed reaction and one that has surprised us a little.

Wonder what the opinion is of WUS Members, let me know which side of the Quick Release fence you are and why ?

    Be interesting to know.

I'm rather indifferent about the quick release question. Quick release is useful for "ordinary" people who are not used to changing straps with a spring bar tool but personally I find chaging the strap to be rather easy so I don't really need quick release. I have some quick release straps and of course they are slightly easier to use but the straps I like most don't have it and it's not a problem. So basically quick release is ok but the lack of it isn't an issue when buying a strap.

I don't mind quick release. Keeps me from scratching my case. Not sure if there are any drawbacks to them.

It seems as though this is a good idea (even seasoned strap changers have an occasional mishap).

Are there any know downsides (inadvertent deployment, etc).

The only downside I can see is some people tend to use a 20mm strap due to a large selection of choice and fit them to a 19mm lug watch, same applies 22mm into 21mm, but with a QR pre fitted at the factory, this would not be possible without removing the QR.

Same applies if you wanted to notch the strap to suit a non standard case.

It depends on the quality, some straps with quick release pin I've seen in real have less than average construction quality. It's like your watch is waiting its turn to fly across the street.

If you suffer from health issues in hands or eyes, quick release spring bars can be an absolute godsend.

@WatchObsession: will Hirsch be introducing quick release versions of their established/long-running strap models, as well as their new straps?

I don't trust them. Not only from a quality/strength standpoint (a solid tube will be stronger than one with a slot cut into it) but if anything snags on that little stud your watch will likely take a nasty tumble.

In a few cases for me, the leather has gotten stretched out and made them difficult to manipulate.
