Strap suggestions for this Grand Seiko?

Having a hard time finding a good strap for my watch. The original strap was a gator grain calfskin strap that was ridiculously long and the GS deployant was pretty awful.

Tried black shell cordovan, french calfskin with contrast stitching, suede, but still doesn't seem right...

I was thinking dark blue teju lizard or genuine dark blue gator as my next try... any suggestions?

Here’s what I would go for:

For business like look, a navy saffiano.
For more formal, a black/navy matte crocodile.
    Casual, grey suede.

I‘d try a nice, classic elegant Saffiano Burgundy (vintagestraps.it)

In case you or anyone else has smaller wrists like me, you can do custom length straps with guys like Heuerville and VelleAlexander, to name a few I like with regards to quality, strap options/customizability, and customer service (very friendly people).

The original strap is not calfskin but crocodile.

Pretty sure mine is cow leather with croc grain and not real croc? Maybe I'm just used to seeing croc leather as shiny and never had a matte one like this before?
Either way it felt like a 210mm+ strap so couldn't wear it

Peter Gani will make custom straps too. He has made 3 for me over the years.

I love the gray suede notion for a dressy everyday look. I'd prefer charcoal gray; lighter, silver gray might be a bit washed out.

Try Camille Fournet's strap customizer for ideas, if nothing else.

For example, they have a nubuck buffalo in a sangria color. The leather's heavily patterned, which can work with this dial. The top color looks to be a dark burgundy or brown...hard to tell. The lower color looks to be black. Bunch of other options.

And you can customize pretty much everything, including stitching. I'd leave the focus on the dial...so minimal stitching, and that in a matching color, not contrasting. Patterned leather like lizard should be OK, altho I don't think I'd do python, sting ray, or shark...those are TOO patterned. I'd also prefer a matte finish, as the bezel, hands, and I bet the dial, have PLENTY of shine.

That watch has quite a bit of flash to it so I would have thought the black cordovan would have been a perfect match to keep attention on the dial. But maybe you are looking for some more personality with your strap.

Take a look at the blue suede by Fluco. It's a great match for all silver-coloured, white faced watches, and has tons of personality - insert your own Elvis joke about matching shoes.

Sounds like you already tried French calfskin, but maybe try one with a light tobacco colour and white contrast stitching? That will bring out the white dial, like how a white shirt pairs well with a summer tan. Calfskin always has a soft, luxurious appearance, if that's the look you are going for.

When I can't match a watch, I often fall back on the Hadley-Roma braided strap. It adds lots of personality without being sporty, and comes in a few shades of brown and of course black.
