<<<< Watch Straps - Show 'em here >>>>

    Happy new year everyone!

I thought it could be an interesting topic and could help me with some research...

For me the strap for a watch is like a frame for a painting - choose it right and even a cheap print can look like a million dollars... Put a masterpiece in a bad one and it will look like something you have picked up from a local car boot sale...

    So lets talk straps!

Show us your favourite watch strap(s) that you own and what are your favourite materials you usually go for (e.g. alligator, exotic leathers, fabric etc)???

Also I have attached a little poll for how much you would be willing to spend for a top quality handmade strap?

I only have this dark brown leather Paros Strap. I'd be interested to see what others have to post as I'd love to expand my collection.

I stock a wide variety of Horween leathers, but I certainly have a soft spot for the exotic hides and leathers.

Re: <<<< Watch Straps - Show 'em here >>>>

I agree with OP about this being moved to the Strap Forum, whilst I understand the reason, post is about straps it will get feedback from people who are generally into straps, not everyone is and this is already apparent by the Poll Results.

Being in the business of selling straps we see the whole range of attitudes to watches and watch straps, there are those that will not pay more for a strap than the watch it is attached to, this is crazy because using this logic you really are limiting your options and at the end of the day if you sell the watch you can always keep the strap to put on the next watch. There are those that can't justify spending on a strap at all, had a customer who could not warrant spending anymore than £10 on a strap for his solid gold Rolex Daytona, this I find bizarre, a little like having a lovely motor and putting rusty steel wheels on it, in my opinion, the strap, the buckle form part of the complete watch and can make heck of a difference to the overall look.

We have seen the look of a watch be totally transformed with the right strap, get it wrong you get the opposite result, personally regardless of costs I tend to go along a certain pattern, calf skin leather strap for general wear, rubber strap for playing out and about on my bike or in water and a genuine skin for special occasions, albeit I do not have one of each, perk of the job !!

An example for choosing right, seen below, if I had said a red rubber strap with a sailcloth upper, for your Speedy would be ideal, you might think differently but this is probably the best example I have seen of this strap, usually I would only go with red if there was a red accent on the dial but this seems to work, in my opinion anyway. For reference it is the Hirsch Robby !!
