What is an average sized wrist ?

We get told plenty of times, "I have an average sized wrist !" but what is average ?

Majority of mainstream strap manufacturers cater for a 7 1/4" to 7 3/4" with a shortage of Short or Extra Long straps.

Nothing too serious in the Poll but where are you on the scale of average ?

Add a comment letting us know you wrist size and how easy or not, you find getting straps suitable.

My guess would be in the 7-7.25" range, but that is only my opinion.

"Average" is a very subjective term......

    My wrist is 7.25"

A perfect strap for me has 85mm/115mm lengths. That puts the buckle in the center of my wrist and ensures the tail is not too long.

I also depends on which hemisphere you are talking about. The reason watch sizes are decreasing has less to do with any fashion trends, and much more to do with the average size of a Chinese wrist.

My actual wrist size is 19.3 cm; however, I have always rounded down to 19 cm. So with this survey, I will go with the 7 1/2" to 8" category.

As for the ideal strap length, it depends on the lug-to-lug width of the watch. Ideally, the 'short part + lug-to-lug width + long part' should equal 24 cm.

I am on the high-end of the scale. My wrist was a solid 8.25 in the beginning, but has slimmed down over the years to about 7.75. Having said that, I do experience wrist swell in the heat and like my watches a little on the loose side (if I can read the case back printing in my skin when I take it off, that's too tight), so I voted "over 8" because I think that's a fair assessment of the thickest my wrist can get.

I have a very difficult time sizing my wrist. Both my Rolex have an extra link. My APRO has an extra link. My Omega GM has two extra links (to be fair, those links are more like half links). My GS has an extra link. The BP, Bremont, and both Oris, interestingly, did not require extra links. My one strap, on the Grey Side, is the standard Omega deployant - which tend to run large naturally, and I have it on the next to last hole.

So for me, I basically have to have new, because of the availability of bracelet links. Vintage bracelets are out of the question because they will never fit.

    Regards,

I'm 6.75", and am currently wearing a Geckota strap that I wear comfortably on the last hole (first hole? smallest strap setting, anyway).

I've had a few straps I've needed to punch extra holes in, and a few more that are so long the strap end sticks out so much I don't even try to wear them.

at 6.5 inches, I find straps are usually either too long or too short. 6.5 is kind of far away from the sweet spot of most sizes. For example, the sizing details at the hodinkee site:

"In general, our regular size straps fit wrists that are 6.5 inches to 7.5 inches, while our short length straps fit wrists that are 5.5 inches to 6.5 inches."
