So I currently have a 114060 no date and a Speedy Pro that I intend on keeping in the "collection". Ultimately I'd like to add one of the aforementioned Rolex' and a Reverso 976. I'd like the Rolex to be a little more under the radar and a possible everyday piece. If I could get either of the 200's with a brushed top case and brushed bracelet, it would make the choice easy. The black dial 114300 OP39 is really growing on me as well. Don't really care about the "entry level" stigma. So what would you pick? Since it would likely get more use during the week, I don't have a power reserve issue. I also don't necessarily care about the date, seeing as I get by with two pieces that don't have it currently. I'd also be purchasing a new/unworn piece. Thanks.
I had the opportunity to try on a black dial the other day and really liked the 39 case and the fact it has the same movement as the Explorer 1. Only thing I think I'd see doing is swapping out the clasp for the glidelock unit from the Sub. I've gotten too used to it not to have it. I wish Rolex offered the ability to order the watch with desired upgrades for an appropriate up charge.
That's too bad. I tried it on the other night and it doesn't wear any larger than my Sub for me. I regularly wear a Speedmaster 42 and a Panerai 44 though with a 7" wrist so your mileage might vary haha.
For me, the bezel of the 5 digit Sub seems to minimize the proportional size appearance on my wrist versus the broader face of the OP39 (if that makes any sense).
Again though, you can't lose with the OP39. They're a near-bargain right now versus most any other reference. I've seen prices trending below $5k which means you can practically buy 2 over 1 Sub.
That stated, the new DJ's at 36mm, with updated movement (70 hour power reserve) and bracelet (easy adjustments) are worthy competitors. Take a look at the DJ Black 126200 that DSW has on his site and compare it to the OP39 Black. No much more money, but some nice enhancements.
It's funny you mention that watch, I have been on their site and was already comparing the black dial OP39 he has and the black dial 126200. It's really a toss up for me. I'm not all that flashy of a guy so for everyday, the OP seems to fit the bill. It's definitely nice having something that will dress up well though and the DJ does great at that.
The black dial 114300 OP39 is what I would go for, I have always wanted the watch but I have not had the moral to pic it up. You can also purchase the 114300 and 126200, starting with the 114300.
That could be what ends up happening, with a few years in between purchases haha. I could see the 114300 black dial and 126200 silver dial on an Oyster. If you want the OP, find a way to make it happen responsibly and pull the trigger. Only live once. Watches are the only vice I have left.
This combo seems like a no brainer to me.
The white dial brings something different to the wrist and the Reverso will cover dress wear if you really need it to, the white dial OP covers everything else so well.
If they ever release a white dial 36mm datejust with the jubilee option that would also fit your collection well, I know I will be looking at that as a pai with my explorer.
That is definitely a nice combo. I wish that I could find an AD around here with a white dial for me to see in person. I could see if it was a viable option at that point. I've seen the black dial though and it's gorgeous. Rolex needs to work on their photo depictions. The 114060 looks great in that pic and the 114300 looks bland. It's much more impressive in real life and angled shots.
Can't go wrong with this set. I bought the white OP39 because of white dial and how it changes with the light. Pictures just don't do it justice with how much it can change from an almost creamy white to a soft silver. Just picked up the sub last week. Couldn't be happier with the pair.
They look great together! I have yet to see a white dial in person. Just keep hearing that pictures don't do it justice. I do love the black dial that I tried on though.
Yea, I'm one of the odd people that actually prefers the Oyster bracelet if I'm going to have a smooth bezel. I'd go Jubilee with a fluted 234. I think the OP39 is winning out at this point. Just need to find a white dial to compare before I pull the trigger. Thank you for all the input guys!
definitely will go for the 114300 because 116200/126200 just 36mm and maybe too small for the wrist once you wore big size. but since you have a 114060(no date), then i would prefer you should get something different(like with date), it will change a little bit of the style. so BIGGER SIZE or WITH DATE.....?? your choice or buy both.
Rolex makes the Submariner, and the Submariner Date. There is no "Submariner No-Date". You gotta get it right if you're going to be in the Rolex club LOL
