    36mm Rolex OP vs Datejust

    I was chatting with a fellow watch enthusiast the other day and he picked up a Rolex Datejust 36mm Black dial smooth bezel on oyster bracelet and he told me that if it weren’t for him wanting a watch with a date then he would’ve gotten the 36mm OP in the same spec due to the price. So I was wondering has anyone been stuck between choosing between the two with similar configuration and which would you/did you choose?

    Not even a close one for me... I despise the cyclops, so I would always go for the no-date version where available. That means OP for me rather than DJ.

    I’m over fifty now, so I can certainly appreciate the practicality of the magnifying lens. It works and works well. However, another side affect of being over fifty, beyond deterioration in my eyesight, is a greater understanding of what I like and dislike, and that is accompanied by a stronger stubborn streak than in my youth, so I’m perfectly happy to forego a useful complication in the interest of preserving what I perceive as a “cleaner” look.

    Date windows break up the symmetry of the dial...hence...

    Occasional watch: no date, so OP;
    Daily-wear: date, so DJ.

    That's about it for me. I had been leaning heavily towards date-equipped watches because I never remember what day it is. But I wear a smartwatch most often, so my mechanicals usually run down -- which means that, when I decide to wear one, I need to take an extra couple steps to set it. I also work at a computer screen, so the date is right there in front of me all day long.

    Still, yesterday afternoon (a Sunday), my wife asked about the date, and there was no computer nearby -- but there it was on my mechanical watch. So I still use the date outside of working hours.

    OP everyday. I am not a fan of dates on dials as they ruin the symmetry %95 of the time and I hate the cyclops look.

    Wear both. OP on the left hand so it won't break the symmetry. DJ on the right hand so we can tell the date. Or vice versa.

    Both. I quite like having the choice of wearing an oyster bracelet, and the jubilee. Similar to picking a date and no date dial, depending on mood.
