BB58 and Explorer 1 size difference

I currently own a 58 and am in the market for an Explorer 1 (39mm). I noticed that the cases look damn near identical. Sans material, are they the same case and dimensions? I don't have an AD locally with an Explorer 1 in stock to compare.

    Thanks!

The look will be totally different bc of the bezel. Explorer def won't feel smaller when you are wearing it.

I have both the 58 and the 214270 mark I. The 58 wears larger die to case design and divers bezel.

The BB58 wears larger due to it’s lug size and bezel as well.

The explorer I would actually look bigger because it's all dial and no bezel. Compared to a subc the Explorer wears a tad bigger. The BB58 while not a small watch will look smaller compared to it. I have both btw.

Explorer 1, being all dial, wears a bit larger than 39mm would suggest.

Now this is true but also false.

The explorer 39 has a steel bezel around it, say around 2-3mm wide.

While the BB58, has probably around 5mm bezel wide.

The DIAL on the 39mm will definitely look larger.

The OVERALL on the BB58 will look larger, because the black bezel, with black dial, it feels like it extends beyond the dial. The trim on the bezel itself (the steel part that you can see from top view), is actually very slim (0.5mm?). So overall, TO ME, it looks bigger. IF the bezel was brushed steel or whatnot, the BB58 will instantly look smaller due to the smaller dial size.

I also think (real wild guess from my memories), the BB58 has a slightly longer lug to lug length, and thicker lug “meat.

Not understanding at all how you're viewing this. IMO it's not even close with the 58 looking and wearing bigger.

It's because there is a visual break between the dial and the dive bezel on the BB58 and other dive watches as opposed to the Explorer I just having the dial. Even objectively the BB58's dial is smaller ~27mm vs the Explorer's ~31mm diameter. They are both 39mm watches and about 48mm lug to lug length but wear differently
