Decisions to be made - 16170 vs 116710 vs 16570

    Dear all,

First, i hope you and your dear ones are safe and the #stayathome didn't drove you nuts yet (although this is difficult if you have kids at home :) ). Yes, we live crazy times and maybe this is not the right spending, discussion but still ... with prices coming down last 2 weeks, i have some difficult decisions to make in April.

I've been on a list for a 126710 BLNR since May last year and i do believe it will come before July this year when i have the anniversary (at least i was promised). I would have went gray (and i would still do it), if prices would be maximum 15% higher than MSRP (e.g. give or take 10.000 EUR here). So i would get a new watch with a newer movement, i would still look to add a brushed bracelet soon. I would maybe look at selling the jubilee bracelet unworn and change it straight not to loose money, but this is just a thought now.

On a scale from 1 to 10, blue+black would get a 8/10 while the 10/10 would go to ... BLACK bezel - my favorite GMT bezel, but i hate the PCL on the 116710 LN -> in the last 15 months I've checked both the old BLNR and the LN at one pawn shop plus a DJ with the PCL at AD and clearly i hate that bracelet on my wrists. Buying a brushed bracelet to change the PCL (1500-2000 EUR?), plus adding a service for a 2010-2013 watch (700-1000 EUR) would have brought the total package price way over my 10.000 EUR. Additionally, i read over that first iterations of 3186 incurred some issues with the jump hour spring.

Now with prices going down i looked at 16710 from 2000+ -> I get the bracelet although in not very good condition, i like the red hand, 3185 is one of the most reliable and long standing calibers... but I am scared of potential parts that were changed with non-original parts and moreover for the items without papers i don't want to find out that is a stolen watch one day; additionally, prices are higher than 116710LN in general, and most of the list are in US, which might increase the price with the VAT when importing it (tough a lower declared value can solve this, it will affect insurance).

Fourth option is Exp II, 16570 -> I get same black dial, it is a cheaper option, but somehow most of the listings i found on chrono, TRF, here or ebay are in worse shape than GMTs so I would still have to account a service and maybe a new bracelet.

So what would you do mates? what advices/what to look for if i go for 16710 or 16570 from 2000-2006? Do you have some pics of 116710LN on non PCL bracelets?

I want a GMT complication as i travel quite a bit, I love black dials, but i go in circles - I would clearly favor 116710LN but I hate the PCL so much that i wouldn't wear the watch until i would put a new bracelet which brings me to why not choose 16710 as it has the right bracelet, or a 16570 which is 30-40% cheaper and then in the end, why not a 126710BLNR which is a new watch but whose arrival i can't control unless gray prices slides 10% more or AD reopens the store in April (0% probability here) . Bear in mind, i want the watch to work fine in 10 years time also

Thanks in advance and stay safe

    First where are you?

Second, why not just buy the black bezel green hand GMT that you want and send the bracelet to ABC or LAWW and get it brushed? This way you actually get what you really want.

I did a super quick search of chrono24 and many examples of the LN. Getting the bracelet brushed won't cost much and is reversible should you choose.

I am in Luxembourg/Europe - and with this crazy virus, i have all my travel to US stopped by summer and if having them shipped, beside custom duty which is low, will have to pay VAT of 17%

But i didn't thought of brushing the PCL...thanks for the idea, found some old topic on this subject

I’ve seen a few ‘full set’ LN’s go for less than 10k in the Netherlands and I expect prices to fall over the next 3 months.

Agreed with the above - get the LN and get the bracelet brushed. Or just get a 97200 bracelet and fit it for the 116710LN (you'll need the LN bracelet's original spring bars but otherwise it fits) if you really care about the original sub+glidelock combo.

Seems you really like the 116710 — I would get that and first try living with the PCLS, and brush them if you can’t live with them.
