I am LOVING this watch. Here are some quick initial impressions after five days:
-I owned a previous generation Datejust with sticks. This just feels like a completely different watch and fixes every issue I had before.
-The case has been refined in a very good way.
-This is my first jubilee bracelet. Between the 5mm links and 3mm micro adjust it's very adjustable. When I first sized the watch it felt great, although a tad snug (which I chalked up to it being a warm day). A few days later I added link to the 12 o'clock side and made the microadjust tighter (in effect making the bracelet 2mm looser). Dang. It's like magic... absolute perfect fit. If you are new to sizing these, remember that there should be MORE links on the 12 o'clock side. That is the side that folds over so it needs to be longer. If in doubt close up the bracelet and see if the clasp is centered.
-The clasp takes a bit of elegance away from the previous gen jubilee. I don't care. It fits so nicely I'll happily make that tradeoff. Plus you get easy-link.
-White face, Roman dial, smooth bezel. Surprisingly good legibility (a problem I had with my last datejust). I couldn't imagine this watch without the Roman dial now that I have it. The blue dial is gorgeous but I can't get enough of the white gold indices on the pure white face. It looks better in person than on the web.
-I love the fact that there is no lume. Rolex doesn't put enough lume on the DJ hands... another pet peeve from my last DJ.
-I love the railroad tracks. I understand most buyers prefer the cleaner dial on the sticks version, but to me railroad tracks are quintessentially Swiss.
-It is running +0 after five days. Can't argue with that...
-The date bubble has really grown on me since the last time I owned this watch.
-Rolex does the date complication better than any other brand. Want to change the date at 11:30pm? Go for it!
-I want to test the 70 hour power reserve... but I'm in the honeymoon phase and can't stop wearing it. Serious first world problems.
**I used to be a Grand Seiko snob. Having owned several hi-beat, a spring drive, and several 9F's... I'm taking this Rolex every time.**
