Stopped by the AD to pick up a gift for my wife's birthday. I have a good relationship with the AD, having acquired a Sub Date, Batman, Hulk and DSSD from him within the past 15 months.
I didn't even bring up Rolex, I just stopped to get the gift for herself, which I'd already purchased and paid for via text and phone (he gave me his cell# a while back, and usually updates me that way.)
As I retrieved the package for her, my AD dropped, "Hey, wanted to let you know I'm really trying to get a Daytona for you. The manager (indicating in his direction) knows I want one for you. Now it's just a matter of waiting for the next one to be delivered to us!"
Nice words to hear...noting it in this thread for posterity - let's see how long this takes!

Before jumping in to Rolex, I had purchased 7 watches (one a Panerai) between 2006 and 2010 from this particular store, but nothing since (from them...watch buying is something I do constantly).
When I decided I'd finally get a Sub, last spring, I checked in with one AD (where i'd never bought before) who told me the waiting list was 6-12 months long, and they required cash in full, no guarantees. So I went to the other place, where I had the history above. Apparently, they kept it all in a database...as mentioned I hadn't been in the store since 2010...but seeing that history, he called another location and got me the piece within the hour, delivered to the store the next day.
He's since contacted me when they get interesting items. Sometimes I buy.
I'm really taking a liking to Rolex! Here's the collection so far.
Purchased 3 models from an AD this past year, I asked for the Pepsi after my first purchase and Daytona White after my 2nd. I'm not holding my breath... I know I'm not the biggest fish in that sea.

I want to know what you had to spend there to get those 4 pieces in a little over a year... (obviously rhetorical) There are guys who can't even get a Sub in that time frame. o| Good luck!
I just buy watches I want when I’m ready to do so. I don’t buy an armful to get the one I want. I spend that, you know, on my kids, my wife, my house, a holiday or the million other things that stick up.
The thread title could be rejigged as ‘Two Men Discuss Watches Without Result’.
Bought a set of cuff links from my local AD for $20. Asked them for a Batman. They told me only if I buy another pair for $20 I would get a Batgirl in next week...since I'm a big spender and their best customer!
I'm actually holding my breath! Not sure for how many more minutes I'll survive!
I floated my AD. He let me look at a brochure for a few seconds before blindfolding me again.
EDIT: damn that autocorrect!
